Welding job is not easy as you may think, it is a dangerous job because there are many risks involved with it. UV radiation can cause damage to eyes, respiratory problems due to damage, smoke on the skin due to exposure to heat, burns, etc. are some of the hazards involved with welding work. Therefore, to weld safely and completely avoid the risk of dangerous you have to maintain adequate security measures. You can see the steps below in order to have a brief idea about the safety precautions during welding:
- Check the device: The first thing you should do before you begin the process of welding is a welding equipment to check for wear and tear. Check valve and hose of welding equipment for signs of leakage. What you can do is spray a mixture of water and soap on the valve and the hose and make sure that no bubbles are created from the leak. In the case of a leak, replace the damaged parts before you with your work.
- Prepare your workplace: See that the workplace where you will perform the welding process does not have a thrash, flammable liquids or combustible material that can ignite due to welding sparks. Open the doors, windows and also activate the exhaust fan to ensure that there is adequate ventilation in the workplace.
- Dress Right: The spark came from the welding process can damage your skin, so it becomes very important to dress properly when you do the welding process. Gloves, long sleeved t-shirt, trousers etc. forming part of the protective clothing. Make sure that you wear clothing made from 100% cotton or wool. Clothing made of synthetic fibers can burn easily, so avoid wearing them. Wrist cuffs and ankle can be loosely associated with sparks and can burn, so it is advisable to wear a wrist band to cover the loose fittings.
- Wear a safety helmet: ultraviolet and infrared rays that arise during the welding process can cause severe eye damage. Therefore bow wearing a mask that provides complete protection to the head and face of the beam at risk is recommended. Helmets can also provide partial protection to you from inhaling dangerous fumes. So, buy a mask of good quality bow OSHA standards to ensure proper protection from the rays. Ensure that the helmet has a shape and consists of a polycarbonate opaque because it is the only material that can provide protection from UV rays.
If the respirator in the workplace where you work do not have good ventilation then you should use a respirator. General safety precautions must be followed: Keep a fire extinguisher handy in case of any emergency, fire-resistant shoes, using glasses for light welding jobs, etc.
Make sure that you follow the steps mentioned above the next time when you weld.
